Sustainability

We are taking part in the What's for Lunch Gardening program which provides us with great reading and activities around the gardens.  You will remember that we did the sustainability program in term 2 and each week we learned about a new resource and how we can manage it.  The site is interactive and now accessible at home.

Art Day in Tautoru

On Wednesday we were artists for the day... We had so much fun and learnt new skills. Our artwork was based on different stories.

Katherine: I liked the painting!

Isabella: I like to do art because I like patterns and drawing.

Rim: I got to make a Rainbow Fish. We got to put lots of colours on.

Jupiter: I learnt different skills and we got to work with different textures. Awesome day!

Ben: I liked designing my own fish.

We made fish after looking at the Rainbow Fish.

Pizza Time

 Today we fired up the pizza ovens. The pizzas were delicious! 

Zombie Day

On Friday the 30th of October there is going to be a zombie day at school.  Dress up in your favourite zombie design and you could win the zombie competition!

This is my family that I made at free art during daily 5. It even has a stand to keep it up.

Flag Design

In maths we have been using fractions to design flags. For these flags we have used thirds.
These flags are one third orange, one third green and one third blue. We found out that 4 is one third of 12.

More volume and capacity! We're estimating and guessing the volume of different containers and comparing. Some of the little containers hold a lot more than we thought!!

In Tautoru we have been working on out community writing which is centred around "Me on the Map". We started with me, my room, my community, my city and my country. We coloured our maps and then drew a line to where we come from! 

More animals in danger

Animals in Danger

Scott's reading group have started a mini inquiry into endangered or extinct animals.

They have researched information and presented their finding as a poster

Volume and Capacity--we're exploring measurement again. This time looking at volume and capacity. Each group had to order their containers from holds the most to holds the least and they had to be able to justify their reasoning. One group measured each container using the smallest cup while another group compared by pouring the amount of water into another cup and seeing if the water overflowed.

The Big Shakeout and Emergency Evacuation

Drop, Cover and Hold

The Big Shakeout and Emergency Evacuation is scheduled for: Thursday 15 October, 9.15 am and 2.30 pm

While we will take part in the earthquake drill at 9.15 am, this is a great opportunity to test our systems regarding emergency evacuation. This will be a bit of an unknown in reality..... phone lines will be clogged and email probably down BUT we can simulate the exercise as much as possible on this day.

So, what will happen on the 15 October 2015?

• Parents will get a reminder email and text from the school office at two different times of the day leading up to the 2.30pm pick up.
  This will allow us to check these systems at our end and also for you to double check you haven't got a new mobile number or email address lately!
• If you are unable to collect your child yourself, you will need to contact someone on your Emergency Contact List.
• Children will remain in class spaces at 2.30 pm.
• Staff will be at both school entrances with lists of children's names and nominated contacts who can pick the child/ren up. (If wet, we will let you know where.)
• Parents or their nominated contacts will see a staff member who will check the list and provide them with a WBS stamped piece of paper with the child's name on it.
• This piece of paper will be taken to a staff member who is with the children in the class space and only then will the child be ticked off and able to leave.
• We will keep ECAT (After School Care) children here but please ensure you have returned your emergency contacts. 

As in the case of a 'real' emergency, please do not telephone or email the school. The staff will be too stretched. Just know that your child/ren will be looked after until you or a nominated contact can get to the school.
If a child is not collected by yourselves or a nominated emergency contact at 2.30pm, we will record this and follow up with you.  As we are not sure how the system will work in reality, you may want to arrive from 2.15 pm so there isn't such a queue!

Spelling tests will be week 2!
