Positive Education - Games

On Wednesdays we have some Autahi children and some year 4 buddies come in to Tautoru to work with us. This afternoon as part of our inquiry into play, we designed a game together with our buddy, then tested it. Finally, we were able to teach it to another buddy pair which was lots of fun!

It is nice for us to connect with other children across the school and great to see all of the positive relationships and connections being developed.

The Great Game Challenge- Game Design

This term we have inquired into how play and games can help us to learn. We have discovered that games can help us to collaborate, connect and also learn physical skills like different sports games or strategies and facts like some board games. We also make friends and use problem-solving skills when we play together. Most importantly, games challenge us and they are fun!

Now it's time for...

We will become game designers by creating games for others to play using the Design Thinking process.

Here we are during the beginning phases of the process as we decided who we would create the game for and what they would need in a game.
We will keep you posted on our progress.

Games Day

We spent the day today playing board games inside and playing team games outside. We were thinking about what makes games successful.

We got together to talk about and record our thinking. We had to decide what makes a board game or sports game successful.

Tag Game Rules

Tag games have been getting rough and people are getting hurt by other people pushing them over.
In Tautoru, we have made some tag rules to solve the problems, just like superheroes. Here they are:

  • Talk about the rules before the game so that everyone agrees the same rules.
  • Use gentle hands at all times.
  • Keep yourself safe. Be careful of slippery wood and grass. Be careful when you are up high.
  • If someone thinks they tagged you but you think they did, then do paper scissors rock or eeny meeny miny mo.
  • If you don’t want to play, use your words. Walk away and play with another friend that you know.
  • Have fun!
