The Storm

Writing

Danny’s literacy group did a  shared writing about the storm. We all added our ideas to the story.

The Storm

I woke in the dead of night, startled by the storm. Crash! Boom! Thudder!

But wait… the storm has passed, it’s still outside.

Then what made that noise?

I got out of bed and carefully opened the door.

I looked up into the sky and saw what was creating the lightening.

A scaly one eyed dragon.

I dived back under the covers.

Bucket Fillers

Bucket Fillers

In Tautoru, we have introduced weekly bucket fillers...these people have been chosen because they have shown that they are real bucket fillers by helping people, caring about people and showing overall empathy towards others.

Week 8: These students were chosen by their base group teacher

Week 9: These students were chosen by last weeks bucket fillers

Year 3 have been experimenting with writing about the feeling of hunger. You will see more of their writing in this weeks school newsletter.

I slivered out of the pool as starvation took over me. I rushed for my food like a bull dog was chasing me.
 Joab

As I crawled out of the pool hunger took over. I rushed to my bag, ripping it open and gobbled my snack.

As I got out of the pool, I felt I could eat an elephant. As I looked around at everyone else, they looked like food.
Rory

I scampered  out of the pool, my body shaking.
My arms and legs trembling with frozenness.
Cold water dripping down my back.

Poor Times by Blake

Once there was a lady that was deaf, blind and could not smell anything. There was a very nice lady that tried to help her. She tried to help her by making words on her chest with her hands. She had been doing it for 13 years. She had to go everywhere with her and she had to sleep on the ground beside her. Their names were Charlotte and Katy. Katy was also very poor. Sometimes Charlotte gave her 2 dollars or 3 dollars if she was lucky. After a month and 10 days she wasn’t very poor anymore.

Cupcake Day

Cupcake day was a great success. Thank you to the people who helped make this event possible. The profit that we made will be going towards a worm farm and developing our outdoor environment.

Thank you!

Green Eggs and Ham, But not the usual one

By Xander

I am Xander. Xander I am.

Do you like green eggs and ham?

I do not like them.

Would you like them with a mouse?

Would you like them in a house?

I would not like them in a house.

I would not like them with a mouse.

I do not like them, now let me be.

Would you could you have them in a car?

Would you could you have them on a train?

I would not like them on a train.

Here in the dark?

I would not like them in the dark.

Would you could you on a boat?

I would not could not on a boat.

Oh no! Here comes a wave.

The boat turned.

Ok, but now you must let me be.

I do like them, I truly do.

I like them and I will eat them anywhere.

The Incredibles...POWER!

As apart of our Inquiry in Tautoru we watched the Incredibles and then in groups of four we worked collaboratively to answer some questions about the movie and what we would like our powers to be if we were a super-hero...Come to Assembly this week and find out more!

I've got the POWER!

In Tautoru we have been learning about developing good questions as apart of our Inquiry on POWER. Tautoru had a guest last week and we decided that we would develop some great questions around POWER to ask him...here are some great examples of the questions that were asked... - What does power mean to you? - How do you use your power? - Have you ever had power over someone? - Do you have power in your job? - How do you get power? Thanks to our special guest who answered all the students questions and then some more...
