Letter from Aamir, thanking us for our Peace Poems
Dear Chrissy, Nicola, Scott & Shona,
Thank you for this lovely work. Our children really enjoyed it. What is the age group of the children who worked it out? It's amazing. Please say our thanks and love to the children who worked on this.
We are in the process of printing these poems. We will keep one copy in our school's library and will provide a copy to each child of the poem sent for him or her. We are working on our end to make poems and drawings with our children for yours. It will take a week or two. Is that fine?
Thank you once again.
Much love and peace
Regards,
Aamir

Performances- A moment in time
Last week we performed in our Music Festival. We have been writing recounts about our show. Here is one from each Tautoru base group...
The Junk Bot Aliens
Tap, tap went the drums, I had to keep the beat up for audience. There was only me and Reuben so if I stopped everyone would know (because there was a small group). The group had to do it 7 times for two days and each scene was a minute. But the time went so fast. We all participated and got a gummy. “yay!”
Our beat was confusing because every scene had a different beat.By Jupiter
Story of the Cooks
My stomach urged me on but my brain said this is going too far.I sucked in my cheeks took a deep breath and plunged into what I needed to say, “this is the story of the breakfast cooks...” I used up all my energy, it all just ran out like it was being chased by a stampeding elephants, like a dam had just broken inside my mouth.I felt like I was going to collapse. But my brain changed its mind and urged me on so then I changed my mind and shot up and down like an arrow stretched and curved and at the end we got a big round of applause.

Eagles V Dragons
My brain exploded as it was awesome. Parents cheering and clapping and music playing. It was better than I thought it would be. Fingers pushing, my breath was breathing into the piano. Suddenly it stopped and I was amazed. That was the first night, only seven more times to go. It was tiring but fun. At first I had butterflies in my tummy but then I was as strong as a soldier. It was spectacular and in my head I thought “isn't this amazing!”

Beats and Haka
Did you ever go to school at night?
I did. I had to perform seven times in a row.It was amazing! There were lights of all colours. I enjoyed a lot the drumming with all different instruments. Our audience was giant! I loved doing the haka though it was hard to keep in time with our recording of the haka. The audience went crazy clapping a lot. Chrissy explained how we made our show.

How to make jelly: writing instructions
Making Jelly: Hook for our Inquiry
As part of our change inquiry, we are focusing on kitchen science. Today we started by making fruit jelly. We saw that the jelly crystals dissolved in the hot water. We have left the jelly in the fridge to set...
Glurp, the purple alien
We are learning to read aloud with fluency and expression. Today we read Glurp, the purple alien. Here we are reading the poem...
I’m Glurp, the purple alien.
I come from outer space.
I have a purple body.
I have a purple face.
I use my purple tentacles
The treats I find the tastiest
I’ll eat a purple burger.
I’ll slurp a purple shake .
I’ll feast on purple pickles and
I’ll nosh on purple noodles.
I’ll feast on purple fries.
I’ll munch on purple macaroons
I haven’t seen your planet,
I might just dine on you.

Hannah Fraser Visit
Today Hannah came to talk to us about music. She plays the grand piano at the hospital and makes people happy by playing her music. She teaches people how to play different instruments. She showed us a jazz song and taught us a song called tiny bubbles. She sang us a french song when playing the piano. It is really cool to meet different musicians. Hannah is very talented!

Our Special Guest: Rob and the Bagpipes
Bagpipes by Theo, Rim and Mitchell
As part of the music festival, guests are coming to tell us all about instruments and the music that they play. Today Rob came in to tell us about bagpipes. It was amazing. Bagpipes come from Scotland. He told us how the bagpipes work. They can make a continuous sound. We really like the sound of bagpipes. We also like marching and dancing to them.
Music Art
We created some music using jars containing different amounts of coloured water. Once we had composed our tune, we painted the tune in the appropriate colours on paper. Then we wrote about the different sounds that we heard and shared it with a buddy. Take a look at Seesaw to see individual composition.
Yoga
We were happy, hungry, thirsty, tired and very proud of ourselves about the Music Festival last night.
We started the day on Wednesday with some Yoga to wake up our brains so we can be ready to do it all again tonight!
The Chefs
The "Crazy Cooks" are waiting patiently for the concert to start.
They are excited and nervous about performing to lots of people.

Noodles in my Nostrils by Kenn Nesbitt
Today we read a poem called, "I have Noodles in my Nostrils" by Kenn Nesbitt. The poem is about noodles that fall onto parts of the body. The person who says the poem is a bit silly and calls himself a nincompoop. He falls asleep while eating his lunch of chicken noodle soup. The poem is very funny.

I Have Noodles in My Nostrils by Kenn Nesbitt
I have noodles in my nostrils.
I have noodles on my nose.
There are noodles on my cheeks and chin
I’ve got more upon my forehead.
Some are sticking to my neck.
It’s completely disconcerting.
I’m a noodle-covered wreck.
I can see them on my kneecaps,
(When I stand, they’re somewhat squishy,
There are several in my pockets.
There’s a handful
And I’m pretty sure that some are even
So try not to do what I did:
I’m a total nincompoop,
Here are some of us reading the poem:

A time I lost...writing
We have been exploring a time when we lost and reflecting back on what character strengths we need when we do lose... here are some examples of our writing.
felt very embarrassed if other people saw me crying. I stopped
for a rest, looked around at the other people passing me.
waving around like crazy in the wind and they both said finish.
A time when I lost by Nela
Have you ever lost? Did you feel pretty stink about it? Well I 'm gonna tell you when that happened to me.
It was my third cross country race in some cross country series. I heard the gunfire I shot off like a bullet off but it felt like my legs were propelling me back. I started getting lung burn but I kept on going, I past a couple of people but I still didn't feel good.
My eyes were blurry with tears I wiped them away because I would of
My family were cheering me on then I caught sight of flags
That encouraged me, I ran on and finished the race. I felt so proud
and after all that chatter on about “oh you finished the race” we went for lunch at a cafe.
Cross country by Jupiter
The sand rushed through my toes, my heart was pumping, the sun was shining. I ask to myself “how am I going to get first place”?
It was each year group boys and girls....
I was racing against my friends and I knew we did this for fun.
We did this every year at Worser Bay beach and this time it was a miracle I came 4th!
I was so happy and puffed. I think I persevered and it felt good!

Character Strengths
We have been exploring character strengths and specifically looking at character strengths Olympic athletics need when they lose a competition. Please take a look at our video to see some of our ideas about what we think about the top 6 needed: Bravery, Forgiveness, Kindness, Perseverance, Perspective and Hope. We hope you enjoy the show.

Beauty and Excellence
As part of our big focus on positive education and using our character strengths, we have made a display about looking at things that have made us feel proud or good about something using environment, relationships and self as the headings. We have invited the children to write a note on there whenever they want to.
Blakey
Thank you to Tauranga Intermediate School for gifting Blakey to us. We will look after him and make sure that he has lots of fun at Worser Bay School .
