Bigfoot

Earth 3 have been reading about Big foot and other explained mysteries. Their big foot posters include labels and a description of the beast.

Skype with Port Elliot Primary School

Today some of us skyped with a class from Port Elliot Primary School. We found out that they had a screen linked to a computer. They have painted their walls white so that they can write on it. The playground was great. It looked like it was fun. If I was in Australia, I would choose that school because they have a dog that helps with disabled people.

I have some more questions for the class:
Do you have writing time?
What animals do you have in your country?
Do you have a toy in the class?
How old are you when you start school?
When do you leave school?

It was good to meet the kids and look around their school.

They asked us what our flag looks like:

Bugs in the garden

Earth 2 have been designing posters about the goodies and baddies in the garden and how to keep them out!

Patterning

Patterns.
Today we made some repeating patterns, like.... square, circle, square, circle, etc.
And we made a symmetrical pattern of a chicken, doing the same drawing on the other side of the grid paper.
And we did some number patterns, adding or subtracting numbers.

Planting Experiments

As part of our Inquiry about change and growing we have planted some beans. We are going to test whetether they will grow in different conditions. Last week we brainstormed where we will put the plants and what we will provide them with. Our students can find out more about planting and growing here: https://sites.google.com/a/worserbay.school.nz/matarikiwbs/plants-and-growing

We're excited to see what will happen. Watch this space!

Our students have been proving what they have learnt on Seesaw

Computer Maths is one component of our Maths programme. Our Year 3 students have been sharing what they do with our younger students.

Each week, they get a portal to work through and can access videos, games and tasks and they can choose activities at their level.

You can access the portal by clicking on this link: http://bit.ly/2fTiqAE

Students with Their own Google Apps accounts can log onto our Maths Hub at home/ school by logging on with their school Gmail account:

Carnivorous Plants

Today William and Alexander showed us their carnivorous plants. The plants eat flies and other small creatures. Some fly traps attract insects with a poisonous liquid. Flies and other insects use up all of their energy trying to get out. Don't put your fingers in because that will use a lot of the plant's energy. The plants are green and green attracts insects. Venus fly traps go black when they are dead.

By William, Alexander, Mitchell and Yoshi

After learning about the plant we did some close observational drawings. Greta said that this is a great way to learn.

Logo Design for International Friendship Day: Using Google Drawing

In October, Nicola visited Singapore as part of an Asia NZ Foundation delegation. Nicola visited Bukit Timah School. Worser Bay School have continued to connect and collaborate with Bukit Timah.

Inspired by the way that Bukit Timah School celebrate culture and diversity, Worser Bay are going to celebrate International Friendship Day next year.

"International Friendship Day" is celebrated in Singapore. This day is dedicated to the understanding of Singapore’s relations with its neighbours and aims to nurture the spirit of friendship and collaboration among different people.

International Friendship Day is celebrated in schools in Singapore in April.

Worser Bay School will celebrate International Friendship Day in 2017 and have started a project for 2017. Schools around the world will make short movie about their country and culture. Schools have signed up from across the globe.

The schools that have signed up are from: Ireland, England, USA, Canada, Moldova, Trinidad, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Canada, Luxembourg, Australia, Philippines, China, Romania, Taiwan, Gambia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Morocco, United Arab Emirates and Japan.

Our students have been designing logos using Google Drawing for international Friendship Day. Students from Auroa School in Taranaki have also been working on logos. If you are a classroom or a teacher you can sign up here.

Imagine Poems

We read a poem called Imagine by Pie Corbett. We closed our eyes and imagined. We played with words to paint a picture. Some of us used repitition, similes, metaphor, alliteration and personification.

Imagine
A hot moon and a cold sun
A worm with a bazooka chasing a bird
The solar system exploding
A bee chasing a car
Imagine
Count Dooku was tiny
A Jedi defending Darth Vader
Kylo Ren destroying his own base
Imagine
Plastic bags were not made of plastic
A Jedi with the lightning force
You don't see yourself in a mirror
Peace is war
Imagine
Everyone was bald
The sun was not light
By William

Imagine
imagine a thirsty drink bottle waiting for water.
Imagine… a dull pencil waiting to get sharpened.
Imagine… a sharp hook waiting for a crazy fish.
imagine yummy food waiting to get eaten.
imagine chewing waiting to get chewed.
imagine hair waiting to get shaved .
Imagine… lases waiting to get tied.
Imagine… a tooth waiting to fall out.
By Cruz

Imagine .
Imagine a bad bumblebee biting your bum.
A cat sprinting after a dog.
A princess riding a tricycle.
Imagine a pink fluffy unicorn dancing on a rainbow .
A queen riding on a sparkly unicorn wearing board shorts and sweaty t-shirt.
A goblin turning blue and a blueberry turning green.
Imagine a tiny kitten breathing fire and setting fire to a house.
One orangutan eating an orange while sitting on an oblon.
John jiggling joyfully jumping on a jam jar.
Imagine glasses giggling grimfully. .
A huge mouse in a tiny house.
Imagine all that.
By Nela

Imagine

A beautiful butterfly blushing,
A hippo hating hip hop dancing,
A chameleon crawling carefully
Along a colourful cantaloupe.

Imagine
A water as angry as a rhino,
A rose as pink as a pig,
A moon as big as a balloon.

Imagine
An avalanche is a cheetah,
A piece of watermelon in a watery sea,
A tornado is as angry Pikachu.
