We have been doing a routine with rakau sticks, drumsticks with chairs, drumsticks and

A note from Nicola… (Singapore Cultural Connections Trip 2016)

A note from Nicola… (Singapore Cultural Connections Trip 2016)

The trip has been an amazing experience. I have learnt so much and have experienced so many wonderful things. I feel grateful that I am able to part of this trip through the Asia New Zealand Foundation.

We have been to many of the best sightseeing spots and experienced a range of different cultures.

I have been strengthening connections with my buddy teacher and planning ways for our students to collaborate. We have a lot to learn from each other and are very excited to be working together.

This photo was taken at Bukit Timah School on their national day. They have been celebrating their 51st birthday. I was fortumate enough to join in with the festivities at school.

We had a briefing at the high commission.

As well as visiting a local school, we were shown around Stamford American School. It was interesting to see the contrasts between an international school and the local schools.

The next few days will be spent with our buddy teachers in schools. Friday evening and Saturday will be a conference for the New Zealand and Singapore teachers. Follow my feed on Twitter #sgedtr16

Peace is .....

As part of Peace week Scott’s literacy group have been writing poems about what peace means to them. We have connected with a school in Pakistan to exchange letters, poems and art work around peace.

Peace is laying on the couch.
Peace is silence.
Peace is going to the beach.

By Hunter R

Peace is having a nap.
Peace is playing video games.
Peace is getting up early in the morning.
Peace is climbing a tree.

Peace is Friday morning.
Peace is watching TV.
Peace is watching the sun rise.
Peace is bed fast asleep.
Peace is reading a book.

Peace is a quiet room
Peace is a day of quietness.
Peace is in my living room reading a book.
Peace is an open hand.

Peace is listening to the radio.
Peace is friendship.
Peace is for each boy and girl.
Peace is listening to the pouring rain.

Singapore Cultural Connections Trip

Nicola will be travelling to Singapore today with a handful of other teachers from across New Zealand as part of the Asia New Zealand Foundation's 'Cultural Connections' study tour.

We are very excited and know that Nic will establish some strong connections with Singapore educators while she is there. In turn, this will mean our children will establish online connections with students in Singapore.

Equipping New Zealanders to thrive in the Asian Century is the key focus of the Asia New Zealand Foundation.

This is Colin the sheep who will also be travelling to Singapore!

Peace Poems at Assembly

Next week is Peace Week. We will be connecting with a school in Pakistan- a place that is not as peaceful as ours. We have been writing "Peace" poems and will share these with the school in Pakistan.

This is shared writing by Nicola's literacy group:

Peace is

A calm, graceful day

A friendly, open hand

Happiness, all together

Friendship and calmness

Peace is

A serene jungle

A good day

When families come together

Love on Valentines Day

Peace is

Relaxing on a hot, sunny beach

Wedding bells ringing

A world without rubbish

A calm ocean with lots of life

Peace is

Non-violent and no hate

A quiet library

Showing empathy

4 am in the morning

Peace is

Breathing deeply in and out from your lungs

Starry Matariki at night

A smile

A beautiful sunrise

a spectacular sunset on a summer’s night

Reading a good book

Peace is…

A place to understand

Sitting in a spa with jets and bubbles

Feeling the sand between my toes

Snuggling in your bed with your teddy

Sleeping in a cosy bed with soft pillows and a blanket
