Mystery Skype Questions

We are very excited to learn that we will be doing a Mystery Skype tomorrow. It is when you ask questions to find out where the other school is. Today we wrote some questions that we can use to guess the school.

Some questions we thought of:

  1. Are you in NZ? Are you in Australia? Are you in London? Are you in Asia?
  2. Are you in Wellington? Are you in Hamilton? Are you in Auckland? Are you in Adelaide
  3. Is your school in the city?
  4. Is your school big?
  5. Is your school a primary school?
  6. What temperature do you normally live in?
  7. Does your school go to year 6, 8, 10, or 13?
  8. Do you have a uniform? What colors are your uniforms?
  9. Is it a private school?

The Music Festival

The Cool Music Festival By Griffin

I listened for Matthias’s warning and then I started. BANG! I rolled my ball around the pot like a tornado.  Lily shouted “Dragons, dragons!” for the battle to start.  “How would I keep the ball in the pot?” I thought to myself. I kept the ball going slowly but I knew I had to go faster. Suddenly my ball flew out of the pot nearly hitting Ella!. I found it just in the nick of time as the music started for our battle performance.  Joni started and Raffy did too.  When it got to one minute Pippa, Gina and Alex started.  The battle started. Me and Ollie bashed the pots together six times. Once the battle was over it was time for the sad part and that was the last performance.

Have you ever done seven performances in one night?
by Eden

There I was standing on the stage with everybody looking at me for my school performance. I didn't know that everybody could fit in the school. I was so nervous before I heard the bell ring. Now it was time to start.

I started to dance, clap and sing. I heard the next part and started to drum. Then it was time to dance together in slow motion.  I saw Edward get the spaceship and I knew it was time to move towards the ship.

Then we finished I was so proud of myself. But as I heard the bell ring I was really sad it had ended.  I finally saw my Mum and Dad  and I was so proud of myself.

I felt happy to be in bed and I slept like a bear.

Dragon Attack

I was about to perform at school. It was Tuesday night and I was awake later than I usually am. Fifty eyes were watching me because the parents were watching, including mine.
It felt like I had butterflies in my stomach.I heard people chatting to others but the  audience were very patient. I was waiting to start for a long time. I heard a buzzing noise in my ear and it felt like my brain was about to burst to bits.
I liked smashing the buttons in the battle scene. My heart was pumping crazily. I stood as still as a lizard once it was all finished.
I was excited through the show because I liked playing the instruments. I was really happy because I was performing. It was really fun and exciting.
That night I was really proud of myself. I went to bed straight away because it was a very late night.

Our new Inquiry is all about Kitchen Science. Our students have started to add to this padlet about our favourite foods. Some students from Sunnyhills School in Auckland have also added their favourite foods. Please add if you haven't (Remember to add your name and school)...

Jelly experiment

Yesterday, we took the jelly out of the fridge to see if it had set. We did an experiment with a balloon. Take a look at our video to see the results!

Here are some science experiment clips

Letter from Aamir, thanking us for our Peace Poems

Dear Chrissy, Nicola, Scott & Shona,

Thank you for this lovely work. Our children really enjoyed it. What is the age group of the children who worked it out? It's amazing. Please say our thanks and love to the children who worked on this.
We are in the process of printing these poems. We will keep one copy in our school's library and will provide a copy to each child of the poem sent for him or her. We are working on our end to make poems and drawings with our children for yours. It will take a week or two. Is that fine?
Thank you once again.

Much love and peace

Regards,
Aamir

Performances- A moment in time

Last week we performed in our Music Festival. We have been writing recounts about our show. Here is one from each Tautoru base group...

The Junk Bot Aliens
Tap, tap went the drums, I had to keep the beat up for audience. There was only me and Reuben so if I stopped everyone would know (because there was a small group). The group had to do it 7 times for two days and each scene was a minute. But the time went so fast. We all participated and got a gummy. “yay!”
Our  beat was confusing because every scene had a different beat.

Story of the Cooks
My stomach urged me on but my brain said this is going too far.I sucked in my cheeks took a deep breath and plunged into what I needed to say, “this is the story of the breakfast cooks...” I used up all my energy, it all just ran out like it was being chased by a stampeding elephants, like a dam had just broken inside my mouth.I felt like I was going to collapse. But my brain changed its mind and urged me on so then I changed my mind and shot up and down like an arrow stretched and curved and at the end we got a big round of applause.

Eagles V Dragons
My brain exploded as it was awesome. Parents cheering and clapping and music playing. It was better than I thought it would be. Fingers pushing, my breath was breathing into the piano. Suddenly it stopped and I was amazed. That was the first night, only seven more times to go. It was tiring but fun. At first I had butterflies in my tummy but then I was  as strong as a soldier. It was spectacular and in my head I thought “isn't this amazing!”

Beats and Haka
Did you ever go to school at night?
I did. I had to perform seven times in a row.It was amazing! There were lights of all colours. I enjoyed a lot the drumming with all different instruments. Our audience was giant! I loved doing the haka though it was hard to keep in time with our recording of the haka. The audience went crazy clapping a lot. Chrissy explained how we made our show.
