Kite Art

After we flew our kites on the beach we created some kite art and wrote poems about our experience...

Did you ever by Edward
Did you ever go kite flying at Worser Bay Beach
People screaming
Kites crash landing
People running
Kites swooping
People tugging
Kites pulling
People shouting
Kites falling
People chatting
Kites flying

Celebrating Matariki

We had a great time celebrating Matariki by flying our kites on the beach with our families.

Spanish

This week we recapped on what we have learnt so far in our Spanish lessons. We learnt colours, numbers, feelings and greetings. You can learn the songs:

Let's Go Fly A Kite

We have made our own kites to fly. We have been designing kites that have members of our family on them. We went outside to see how they fly...

Our Tautoru Kite...

See you tomorrow!

Kite making

In preparation for our kite flying celebration for Matariki we have been making kites in class. We have attempted a hexagonal box kite and also a kite based on traditional Maori designs. See you on Friday!

The Kite

As part of our reading this week, we read this poem:

The Kite
by Harry Behn

How bright on the blue
Is a kite when it's new!

With a dive and a dip
It snaps its tail
Then soars like a ship
With only a sail

As over tides
Of wind it rides,

Climbs to the crest
Of a gust and pulls,
Then seems to rest
As wind falls.

When string goes slack
You wind it back

And run until
A new breeze blows
And its wings fill
And up it goes!

How bright on the blue
Is a kite when it's new!

But a raggeder thing
You never will see
When it flaps on a string
In the top of a tree.

Here are some of us reading the poem:
