Games Day

We spent the day today playing board games inside and playing team games outside. We were thinking about what makes games successful.

We got together to talk about and record our thinking. We had to decide what makes a board game or sports game successful.

Adding Native Animals and Plants on a Number Line

One of the ways to make maths visual so we can see how we are grouping numbers is to use a number line. Number lines can help us check when we are starting to add numbers in different ways.

Some of Tautoru have been using number lines to explain how we have added different groups of native animals and plants, trying to make tidy tens or use tens and ones separately. We can then link some of the learning we have been doing in our inquiry to our maths problems. Maths is everywhere!

Here are some of our first tries with number lines.

Sometimes we didn't get them correct the first time but we went back and tried to find where the errors were. We know that mistakes are part of learning!

Inquiry

What do we need to do to make our bodies healthy?
We chose our own groups to work with, did a brainstorm of what we already thought our bodies needed to be healthy, wrote some questions and now we are researching to find out the answers.
The next step in our Inquiry is to sort our information and create a way to share it.
We are hoping to convince others about what they need to do to be healthy.
Ask us.....we will tell you what YOU need to do!

Celebrating Matariki and Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence Day: Suz and Anna's whanau group

We had a fantastic day in our Whanau. We did lots of different things with our main focus being around appreciating the environment around us. We also had a focus on Tuakana Teina. Tuakana Teina is the idea of an older sibling helping and guiding a younger sibling
It was so cool to see so many people ‘adopting’ siblings and helping them out.

Our first activity involved print making. We chose our favourite leaves and made prints of them onto fabric. We are going to turn these into mini tents so keep your eyes peeled for them at the Arts Celebration!

Our second activity involved the remnants of Seatoun beach constructed into dreamcatchers. We used wool to make a spider web effect to attach different bits and bobs onto.

The last activity was some rock painting. We brought some rocks to life by painting a base colour, and then adding black, white and red. Everyone did a range of different patterns and they all look really unique.

Overall we had a great day! Looking forward to see everyone at our Arts Celebration to see the awesome work we made.

Chris' Garden

Chris' Garden on PhotoPeach

Chris wanted to take us to his garden but it is a bit of a walk so he shared some photos with us today. We were fascinated with the lettuce growing out of the side of his house. He thought that he might have dropped seeds by accident.

Garden Visit and Sketching

Some of us went to Mitchell's garden and we also spent some time sketching the beautiful view from the lookout.

Thank you for showing us around Mitchell. What a great leader!

Planting Experiments

As part of our Inquiry about change and growing we have planted some beans. We are going to test whetether they will grow in different conditions. Last week we brainstormed where we will put the plants and what we will provide them with. Our students can find out more about planting and growing here: https://sites.google.com/a/worserbay.school.nz/matarikiwbs/plants-and-growing

We're excited to see what will happen. Watch this space!
