Snow Globe mania!
These are the year 2's snow globes. They are hanging in the classroom ready for next year. We had to think about what our world would have in it if we lived in a snow globe. Then we used oil pastel and dye to create our backgrounds. Next we posed for a photo. Once the photo was taken we laminated it, placed it on the picture and attached it to a plate. We then decorated the plates and named our worlds! Here they are. If you want a closer look, come in and see!

The Three Little Pigs, By Logan
25.11.15
Dear Logan
You know the story of the three little pigs?... well it's not like that!
The huff and puff thing was because I had a terrible sneezing cold, and the reason the first two houses fell down was because they were weak. The pigs were dead so I ate them so they didn't get wasted. When the newspaper pig reporters found out about the pigs I ate, they didn’t think a wolf with a cold sounded interesting so they jazzed up the story with all the big bad wolf stuff and took me to jail. I was framed!

Stories with groupings to 10
Sand 1 have been practising their groupings to 10...they made up stories to go along with their groupings of 10.
Once upon a time there were 10 beautiful red swans. They were separated into two lakes. 5 in one lake and 5 in another lake. 1 of the swans missed her friends so they had a play date so now there were 6 in one lake and 4 in another.
There were 4 small dolphins in one swimming pool and 6 larger dolphins in another. 1 of the small dolphins went to see the bigger dolphins to ask if they wanted the others to come over. So all of the small dolphins said yes but 1 was left behind so there are now 9 dolphins in one swimming pool and 1 small dolphin on the other side. One of the big dolphins came back and brought the small dolphin over so now there are 10.
Once upon a time there was 10 dinosaurs and 1 went away to another tribe and another 1 went to join him. So now there's 2 in one tribe and 8 in the other.

ICT Afternoon Group
In the ICT afternoon group, we have been exploring different apps on the iPad. Today we used imovie , imovie trailer and pic collage to display our collaborative group work.
Our disaster posters: As a group, we had to think of a disaster and how we would escape from that place. We had to think about objects that we might need.
This is what we came up with...

The Environment Group
We are learning about debates and as part of our inquiry, we want to find out about the environment. Our inquiry is called, "who should look after the environment". So far we have made brainstorms. We think that everyone should look after the environment.
Yesterday, we did Google Hangout with Room 10 at Kelburn school. They are near Zealandia. They are very lucky because they see lots of native birds such as kaka , tuis , sparrows, kereru and they even saw a shag fly over the other day. They are also interested in the environment and want to trap pesky rats and other pests. They talked about smart rats who managed to dodge the traps. They are designing different traps that will attract the rats.
We also found out that Mahutonga have also been setting traps for the rats down the bank. The rats are not going for the food in the traps as they don't feel comfortable enough to eat there.

Gardening Groups
This week in our Tuesday afternoon gardening groups we planted some plants in the garden boxes. We planted basil, mint, peas and some beans.
We also researched some edible plants to find out what plants suit what climates and what is the best time of the year to plant them.

Afternoon Clubs
(Trailer by Mya)
Club day was a success! We mixed up with seniors and juniors, new teachers and new spaces. Our club is the ICT and team building groups. We had to work together to cross the minefield and plan how we'd get off a deserted island. Watch this space for some videos explaining our strategies!
