Out of this World!

At Clyde Quay School, students in Pohutakawa Class are learning this solar system song for their production. http://pohucqs.blogspot.co.nz/2016/05/production-songs.html We like the song so we are going to learn it too! Learn the song: Tautoru Songs

As part of our Inquiry, we have been learning about how the moon causes the tides to change. Our students have shown an interest in the solar system.

Today were using drama to show how tides change as the moon orbits the Earth. For more info visit: sites.google.com/a/worserbay.school.nz/matarikiwbs/tides

This is us researching information about the tides.

The Environment: How can we influence positive change?

As part of our Inquiry we have been thinking about how we can take action. We want to influence positive change in the environment. Today we started to brainstorm ideas about things that we can do...

Spanish Lessons

Maria has been coming every Friday to teach some of us Spanish.

Here's a link to a song to practise:

Bullying display

Come in and have a look at our Anti-Bullying display. We made:
1.  helping hands to show that everyone has a role to play in preventing and responding to bullying situations
2. waka which signified working together to prevent bullying, heading in the same direction and cooperating for a common goal
3. posters which unpacked the ideas of forgiveness, perseverance, creativity, gratitude, kindness and bravery
4. whatu pokaka, which are baby blankets lined with feathers to make us feel warm, comfortable, safe and secure from the elements, and ours show what happens at our school to make us feel valued and that we have a sense of belonging.

Remember Poems

Artwork by Matilda
We wrote poems based on this poem...

Summer by Marci Ridlon

Have you ever smelled summer?
Sure you have.
Remember that time
when you were tired of running
or doing nothing much
and you were hot
and you flopped right down on the ground?
Remember how the warm sun smelled and the
grass?
That was summer.

Remember that time
when you were trying to climb
higher in the tree
and you didn’t know how
and your foot was hurting in the fork
but you were holding tight to the branch?
Remember how the bark smelled then
- all dusty dry, but nice?
That was summer.

Remember that time
when the storm blew up quick
and you stood under a ledge
and watched the rain till it stopped
and when it stopped
you walked out again to the sidewalk?
Remember how the pavement smelled
- all steamy warm and wet?
That was summer.

If you try very hard
can you remember that time
when you played outside all day
and you came home for dinner
and had to take a bath right away,
right away?

It took you a long time to pull
your shirt over your head.
Do you remember smelling the sunshine?
That was summer.

Here are some of our poems...

The World Is My Audience 4 (TWIMA4)

The World Is My Audience 4 is all about community. Classes from around the world contributed to this ebook.

Some students in Tautoru submitted poems about places. Autahi shared their classroom treaty and some students in Mahutonga shared their homeless poems.
