Transition Days

We have been having a great time in Tautoru getting to know each other and our new base group teachers.
Today we had to fill in a chart which was "All About Me", with something I am proud of, something I would like help with next year and something I would like to know more about.
We will use these to inform our learning for next year.

Last Friday we made flowers to decorate our classroom ready for next year. We used pastels to blend our two favourite colours. We worked with buddies to help follow the instructions and the cutting out.

Transition Day- Year 3 learning alongside Year 4 and 5: Portraits

On Friday we had a transition day. the Year 3 students spent a day in the Matariki/ Mahutonga space. We had a chance to get to work with students and teachers that we will be learning alongside next year.

We did an Inquiry into Portraits. We looked at some famous portraits and looked at similarities and differences between these. We did an investigation into the Maths of the face, thinking about proportions.

Here are some of our artworks:

Kids Led Learning

This week for Kids Led Learning (KLL) we have been making mazes for a marble to go along. Will even put a little place to store your marble in his maze!

We have been making some rubbings of different things like leaves, sandpaper, shells, wood cuttings and coins to see what they look like, which ones work better and then making them into a picture.

We have been secret squirrels, spotting people who have been using their learner attribute of being connected and giving them a little certificate of thanks.

Matariki: Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence Nic and Scott's Group

Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence Defined. Christopher Peterson and Martin Seligman, the developers of the personal strengths classification, define the appreciation of beauty and goodness as “the ability to find, recognize, and take pleasure in the existence of goodness in the physical and social worlds.”
Today we had a focus on the character strength of Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence. We worked across the school in Whanau groups.
Kyla (Solly's mum) worked with students to make Maro for Matariki.

We took photos of  things that we think are beautiful from around the school. We made these into a collage. You can see this next week at our Arts Celebration. Please make sure that you visit all of the spaces in the school to look at all of the wonderful learning that we have been doing.

We also created a piece of found material art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.

We also loved the opportunity to work with the artist Stan Chan.

Art about ourselves

This week (and a little bit of last week), we have been creating poster about ourselves.
There are so many steps during the process. We are doing this to think about who we are and get to know each other better through the poem.

We used oil pastel and dye for our background, meanwhile we also had to take picture of each other. We worked with Susie to create a poem about ourselves.

At the end we have to put everything together by cutting out our picture and poem carefully; then glue them onto the background we created.

We learned that when cutting, we can draw a line with sharpie to help us cut more carefully.
