Girls Futsal Tournament

Last Friday Worser Bay School was represented by 3 teams at the Girls Futsal Tournament at the ASB. There were teams from across the Wellington region and the day was actioned packed!

The teams played with Zest and a keen sense of Teamwork. It was great to see how all of the teams were supportive of each other but also the opposing teams. I heard a number of our players apologising for a stronger than usual strike of the ball !

Thanks again to the parents that were able to help out with transport and supporting the teams on the day. The students really enjoyed spending the day with you and we appreciate your time and energy.

The event was a great opportunity for students to try out Futsal for the first time or to build on the experience from last year. We have football sessions across the school the term and it looks like we will have a number keen players.

Ball Skills

PE this week has been about developing and strengthening our ball skills. Students have been working in base groups and playing tennis, netball and beginning to learn how to play four square.

Our character strengths of Teamwork, Perseverance and Kindness have been on show. Basket balls can be tough to catch and control so we have really focused on throwing with accuracy.

Four square and hand ball look like games we could bring into our breaks during the day.

Reading Outside

What a great start to Week 2. The sun was shining and we decided to enjoy the cool breeze and bird song while reading. We have started our literacy sessions this week with buddy reading.

Sharing something interesting about our stories, which could be an illustration, a joke or a connection helps to develop our story telling skills and comprehension.

It has been great to see everyone ready for learning and reconnecting after the holidays. Students will be bringing home books this week so be sure to delve into book bags!

Connecting, Collaborating and Having Fun- Global Play Day

Last year we spent a few days getting to know each other. It was so much fun reconnecting through play to celebrate Global Play Day. We used our character strengths of Kindness, Creativity, Bravery and Teamwork throughout the day to share in games and make new friends. Some of us dialed up our Bravery as went to ask new people we hadn't played with before if we could join in. We used our Creativity and made up games. It was a wonderful way to start our new learning journey this year.

Prudence

What a week for visitors! We had the, soon to be Tautoru students, visit from Autahi and then Wednesday afternoon we had them again for our Positive Education session.

We spent the afternoon unpacking Prudence. What is Prudence - It is being aware of the effects of my choices to help me make a choice and how my choices affect others.

.

We begun the session watching Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Plan and discussed who was showing Prudence and how we knew.

We then ended the session with a great discussion around a number of different actions. The students were given a number of options or plans as to what they could do and they discussed which was the best. Lots of great ideas and plans were put in place!

Transition Days -

We were very excited to welcome our new friends to Tautoru this week. We spent the morning getting to know one another, sharing details about ourselves, learning about the new space, and making connections.

This is always a fun and exciting time of the year and the transition to new spaces is a fun time of the Year. The Year 2 (soon to be Year 3's) students of Tautoru were great buddies and there was a lot of kindness and friendship on display.

 .

The Autahi students have spent a lot of time in Tautoru this year and were full of confidence and enthusiasm for their new space.

Our Tautoru treasure hunt helped everyone to be confident about where to hang bags, find highlighters and where to store the chess sets!
